C'est toujours bon de le rappeler : avant d'installer un nouvel antivirus, prenez garde de désinstaller l'ancien. La plupart du temps l'affaire est rapidement réglée en sélectionnant le logiciel dans le menu ajout/suppression de programmes sous XP ou Programmes et fonctionnalités sous Vista accessibles via le panneau de configuration Windows. Néanmoins, lorsque l'application ne s'y trouve pas, l'opération est impossible. Pour remédier à ce problème, certains éditeurs, comme Symantec, offrent des solutions de secours pour forcer la désinstallation de leurs programmes tel que Norton Removal Tool.
